Dorje, about 23, is from a nomad area on the southwest shore of Qinghai Lake. There is no remaining art tradition in his area, so he plans to go back and start a school there after graduating. He also studied in Repgong (the center of Tibetan arts in Amdo) for several years but came to Tibetan Artists’ Development Company because he didn’t like the way art had become so focused on money and had heard about the positive ethics behind the school.
